Charlie Sheen was a mess a few months back, and around that time he was cast as the lead in the show Anger Management. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because it is based on that oh so famous movie. Charlie stars as Charlie, a therapist who has anger issues of his own. It is a thirty minute sitcom and it also stars Selma Blair, Shawnee Smith and Daniela Bobadilla. Blair plays Charlie’s love interest, Smith as his ex-wife and Bobadilla as his daughter. There is also a lot people playing his angry patients.
The series is funny at times, but I can’t help but feel that the creators wanted Sheen to be crazier. He fairly normal now and isn’t really making any headlines. I have no problem with this, but it would probably be free publicity for the show. It’s difficult to point out the negatives of the show, since it mostly is just some of the jokes. Not all the jokes hit, but the ones that do typically leave you crying tears of laughter. Also, some of the characters, more so the actors, aren’t great.
Overall, it is a bright spot for cable sitcoms. It’s mostly funny, mostly well acted, and most of all, it has Charlie Sheen. If you don’t like Charlie, you’ll probably have to pass on this. But if you don’t care about him, or even like him, than this is the show for you. I give it a 6.5 out of 10. It has room for improvement, which is something I hope to see.
