Dream House (Review)

The first thing I ever heard about this movie was that Daniel Craig and other cast members refused to promote the movie because the hated how it was edited.  Now that left a sour taste in my mouth, but I decided to watch it.

For those who don’t know, the movie follows Will as he leaves his job behind to spend more time with his wife and kids in their newly purchased house. They soon find out the previous tenants were found dead, all shot by the husband, who had survived. After that, Will goes on a mission to find out the mystery of his house.

The movie is well acted and stars Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts. The three, along with the supporting cast to a great job with the decent script. My biggest problem is I can’t tell if Craig was going for an American accent or not. Everyone else seems to have one, but his sounds only slightly different from his actual voice.

The biggest problem is that the studio ruined the movie with their trailers. They gave away huge plot details and ruined any chance of having a fun movie going experience. Though, if you avoid the trailers, you might actually enjoy this one. It is far from perfect, as the story is odd at points and doesn’t make sense. But overall, I give it a 7 out of 10.

  1. Probably wont end up seeing this for some time but I completely can see where you’re coming from in that the trailer could easily ruin the film for you. Trailers which spoil plot details are a major pet peave of mine, and in movies like this they can be enough to totally sink it (See The Double with Richard Gere and Topher Grace, it gave away the central plot twist in the trailer itself and for some reason nobody was shocked when it actually happened in the movie…)

    • It’s like studios fear the common man will not be interested so they show the most interesting, epic part of the movie which isn’t great because those ‘epic’ scenes have no context in the trailers. That’s mostly why I try not to watch trailers.

  2. I could not believe what I was seeing in the trailer to this film – how stupid can they be while making such a trailer? They practically showed you everything you cared to know.
