Batman (1966 Film Review) [3 of 200]

Batman and Robin must defend Gotham City from the treacherous villains, The Riddler, The Joker, Penguin and The Catwoman.

The movie is without a doubt, a classic. I also quite enjoyed the villains, mostly Cesar Romero, Lee Meriwether and Frank Gorshin; who played The Joker, The Catwoman and The Riddler, respectively. I find it weird that Heath Ledger’s Joker almost feels like a mash-up between this Joker and Gorshin’s Riddler, plus a whole bunch of other deep dark stuff, but that’s beyond the point.

This movie is highly campy and I found it to be a huge bore. I don’t mean to disrespect the movie, but times have changed and this movie did not age well. The acting is pretty bad and the rubber shark in the beginning is just plain laughable. One could argue that you watch this for the comedy, but I found little comedy in the campiness. I’m not trying to deter you from watching this, but just remember that this is no Nolan trilogy.

Fun Fact: Adam West nearly turned down playing Batman in this film, but he was told that if he did turn it down, the role of Batman would be recast…forever!
