Total Recall (Film Review) [5 of 200]

Bored with his mundane life, a man goes to a place called Rekall to have new and interesting memories put in his head. As the procedure is about to begin, cops armed to the teeth bust down the doors and he soon finds the his life isn’t so boring. But who could possibly have a boring life when they’re really a double agent/resistance fighter?

The film is visually pleasing with a lot of special effects and just an all-around crisp look. I also thought the action sequences looked pretty stunning. As far as acting goes, I thought Jessica Biel did a pretty good job. I thought her character was pretty decent as well. That goes for most of the characters, though. They were all pretty static characters who had limited life breathed into them by some great actors, like Collin Farrell or Bryan Cranston.

I felt that behind all the visuals and good acting, this film really lacked a soul. I think that really stems from sub-par directing and writing. I’m a huge fan of the sci-fi genre, so this film really depresses me with a lot of its wasted potential.

0025Fun Fact: Colin spent a night on the set because he wanted to experience how it would feel to wake up in the future.

  1. The cast and action make this predictable story a whole lot more enjoyable, but it’s still the same, old formula as the original. Except this time, it’s without all of the hilarious Arnie one-liners. Nice review Austin.
