Sinister (Re-review)

93026_galA struggling writer of true crime novels moves him and his family into a house where a grisly murder took place years before. He soon discovers a box filled with “home movies” which turn out to be videos of different families being murdered. He then starts to see some of the crazy things in his new house. Things that would make most men run away, far away.

Director Scott Derrickson really delivers at providing that audience with a good, violent and scary film. Derrickson was able to work with a low-budget and provide thrills throughout the film’s near 2 hour run time. Continue reading

Where’s the glitter? Daybreakers (Review)

Plot

In a world dominated by vampires, they soon find themselves lacking in one essential source…blood. Could some of the last remaining humans have a solution? And will the vampires really be open to it?

Pros

Great acting and the filmmaker does a great job at introducing us to a strange, dark world. The vampires are awesome in this one, which is rare for modern day movies. Ethan Hawke is probably one of the best actors right now, yet his name is never brought up. There is much to like with Daybreakers. I love it when a movie feels unique and really stands out against all the other movies in its genre.

Cons

There is quite a bit of gore, so be aware. Like most movies, especially dark ones, this isn’t for everyone. If you like the Twilight movies, but think every other vampire movie is garbage, best avoid this one as it won’t change your opinion. However, I loved it.

Fun Fact: Apparently, this was filmed in 2007. It wasn’t released until 2009.

Sinister (Review)

Plot

A struggling writer of true fiction moves him and his family into a house where a grisly murder took place years before. He soon discovers a box filled with “home movies” which turns out to be videos of family being murdered. He then starts to see some of the crazy things in his new house.

Pros

The acting is pretty good, which is difficult to say with most scary movies. Ethan Hawke is a great actor and that carries on here. The movie is actually scary, there were points when the whole theater screamed. Overall it is a well done scary movie.

Cons

I feel like they missed out with the ending, it had potential to be better, but it fell just a bit short. There was a few more minor things that I found odd, but I can’t really say them without giving away the story.

Score

4 out of 5

Fun Fact? There is no theater where I live so I have to head into the next city over, Sacramento. In the movie, when they say one of the families was killed in Sacramento, CA, everyone pretty much crapped their pants. That was cool.
