Action Movie Memories (Misty Layne)

True Lies (1994)

I don’t remember the first time I watched this movie but I remember watching this movie about a million times with my mother (who had a crush on Schwarzenegger, lol).  This was probably one of my first ever true action movies because I was more into fantasy and dramas when I was a kid.  I loved the fact that Eliza Dushku was about my age and totally angsty.  I adored Jamie Lee Curtis in this.  And I so had a crush on Bill Paxton during this era.  Stop laughing at me…

In case, you aren’t familiar, the plot goes as follows:

Harry Tasker is a secret agent for the United States Government. For years, he has kept his job from his wife, but is forced to reveal his identity and try to stop nuclear terrorists when he and his wife are kidnapped by the terrorists.

This is one of my favorite action movies of all time and something I’ll happily watch every time it comes on television.  I’m not sure what exactly it is about this movie that works so well for me.  I mean it’s funny, it’s ridiculous and oh so much fun but I’m not sure if my warm fuzzy feelings for this are more about the actual movie or just the memory of a good time with my mom.  Or maybe it’s just the pure fun of revisiting the 90s (c’mon, Tia Carrere is in this!!).  If you’ve somehow missed out, I highly recommend you go hunt this down (you can probably find it in the $5 bin at Walmart) for a silly action packed romp.

  1. Great choice! I remember watching this the first time and laughing my ass off one minute and then gasping at some of the stunts. Yeah, great film. And I only sniggered a little at the Bill Paxton confession…
